Project 01B- Fruit Paintings

PROJECT 01: 

Bring Project 01 as an 11"x17" color print and the digital .PSD file on the due day 


On an 11"x17", 300 "Pixels Per Inch" (ppi/dpi) Resolution file image, use the basic tools of Photoshop to create:

PAGE 01:

Using the Photoshop painting tools and references from real-life and/or photos, paint the following with a clear light source (highlights and shadows) and ground plane (cast shadow).

The objective of this assignment is to create convincing 3-dimensional forms that resemble either a photo-realistic/painterly appearance:
  1. Grayscale Painting of Apple (ONLY using Hard Round and Mixer Brush/Smudge Tool)
  2. Color Painting of a Granny Smith Apple (ONLY using Hard Round, Soft Round and Hard Flat Brushes)
  3. Color Painting of McIntosh/Honeycrisp Apple (ONLY using Hard Round, Soft Round and Hard Flat Brushes)
  4. Color Painting of Any Apple (ONLY using Hard Round and Mixer Brush/Smudge Tool)

PAGE 02:

Using the Photoshop painting tools and references from real-life and/or photos, paint the following with a clear light source (highlights and shadows) and ground plane (cast shadow).

The objective of this assignment is to create convincing 3-dimensional forms that resemble either a photo-realistic/painterly appearance:
  1. Color Painting of the Assigned Fruit Still Life  (ANY Brush Tools can be used)
- File must be labeled as "FullName_DART135_Project01B_01.psd" & "..._02.psd"
- Must include Class Signature in bottom right corner of image

Consider the following:

- Use multiple layers to create a more editable painting (ex. line art layer, base painting layer, value painting layer, color layer, shadow layer, details layer, etc.)

- Use the clipping masks to help you control your edges more easily while you paint

- Explore using different Blending Modes (i.e. Multiply) and Color Adjustments during this time to fine tune your workflow

-Remember to watch all the video links in the blog's "00- Photoshop 101" for extra help with the software

In-Class Assignment- Matte Surface Shapes

IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENT

On separate 11"x17", 300 "Pixels Per Inch" (ppi/dpi) Resolution files, use the basic tools of Photoshop to create:

Page 01:
  • 5 matte spheres (with all applicable light source and shadow) 
  • 5 matte boxes  (with all applicable light source and shadow)
  • Label the file "LastName-FirstName-Week01-Page01.psd"
Page 02:
  • 5 matte cylinders (with all applicable light source and shadow)
  • 5 matte cones (with all applicable light source and shadow)
  • Label the file "LastName-FirstName-Week01-Page02.psd"
